‘We Can’t Prove That, Right?’ Fox Host Asks Tuberville to Back Up His Claim Fauci Killed ‘9 Million People’

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) declared Wednesday evening that Dr. Anthony Fauci had killed “9 million people,” getting an immediate challenge for proof from Fox Business host Liz MacDonald.

The Alabama senator’s comments came several hours after Fauci, who served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for decades and under multiple presidents, was grilled at a highly contentious hearing for the Senate Homeland Security Committee on his role during the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the hearing, Fauci repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and declined to answer, which incensed several GOP senators.

Among the Republicans unhappy with Fauci’s testimony (or lack thereof) was Tuberville. In an appearance on Newsmax after the hearing, Tuberville launched into a long diatribe accusing Fauci of being responsible for the deaths of “millions of people” and said he should be “locked up before he leaves this building today and put in prison, and then put on trial in front of the American people.”

The Newsmax hosts offered little to no pushback to Tuberville’s claims; one’s initial reaction was to say, “Yeah, Senator, I agree. It’s incredibly frustrating for the American public to watch this,” and then asked a follow-up question about how “accountability” could be enforced against Fauci.

Tuberville got a more skeptical reception when he appeared on MacDonald’s Fox Business show The Evening Edit on Wednesday, noting that he did not have proof for a key claim he was making.

During Covid, members of Congress had regular meetings with Fauci, Tuberville said, claiming that Fauci “lied to us and knew that he was lying to us.”

Tuberville went on to predict that Fauci would “eventually end up either broke or in prison,” accusing him of having “hurt trust in this country,” “put this country in a tailspin,” and left the U.S. “almost bankrupt.”

The senator said he was “eventually gonna be the governor of Alabama,” and then he would “sue the heck out of this guy.”

“We’re gonna go after him with everything we’ve got,” Tuberville threatened, “because the guy killed, or had something to do with killing, 9 million people.”

“Yeah, we can’t prove that, right?” MacDonald interjected. “So, well, that’s yet to be determined, how many people are due to that, but-”

“Oh yeah, we can determine it,” Tuberville insisted. “No, we can determine it, because he was in on the gain of function — he was the guy that funded this-”

“You’re saying you can determine it. We understand that, yes, you’re saying that you want to move to do that,” said MacDonald before pivoting to ask Tuberville about what he had said about filing state lawsuits against Fauci.
