Wendy Williams Returns to Her Show, Reveals She Was in Rehab Recovering From Cocaine Addiction

Wendy Williams returned to her television show Tuesday morning with a shocking revelation to her fans: she had spent the past two months in rehab, recovering from cocaine addiction.

Fighting tears, the host of The Wendy Williams Show described her journey in recovery since leaving the show back in January, and urged others who are struggling with addiction to seek help as well.

“For some time now, and even today and beyond, I have been living in a sober house,” she revealed in a moment of vulnerability. “When you see me come to work glammed up, right after the show, I go across the street, I do my pilates; I told you two hours a day I like to take care of my body.”

Williams revealed that every day, following her pilates classes, she has been attending support group meetings for cocaine addiction across the tri-state New York area. She has also been working with a 24-hour addiction coach. “It’s been really interesting, this ride,” said Williams, describing her experience with addiction support groups.

“They don’t know I’m Wendy. They don’t care I’m Wendy. There’s no autographs. There’s no nothing. It’s the brothers and sisters caught up in the struggle,” she said.

The television host said that prior to this segment, no one has known about this but her husband Kevin Hunter, and her son Kevin Hunter Jr. She had not begun treating her addiction until recently, despite having struggled with cocaine dependence in the past.

“Not my parents, nobody–nobody knew. Because I look so glamorous out here,” she said.

Finally, Williams urged her fans to get involved with the 24/7 nonprofit hotline she and her husband built in order to support those suffering with addiction. The Hunter Foundation, she says, has already placed 56 victims of substance dependency in rehab. Williams said she hopes her story will help others get the help they need.

“So that is my truth,” she said. “Either you’re calling me crazy or the bravest woman you know. I don’t care.”
