‘Where the Hell’s My Party?’ Gavin Newsom Rages at Democrats Over Response to Supreme Court Leak

Gavin Newsom Rages at Democrats Over Threat to Roe

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) ripped members of his own party during a speech in which he said Republicans are “winning” on the issue if abortion.

Newsom visited a Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles on Wednesday following reporting of a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court.

Authored by Justice Samuel Alito, the ruling would overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark case that established a constitutional right to abortion.

“We will assert ourselves as Californians by punching above our weight, working with other like-minded leaders and governors and legislatures all over this country,” Newsom said. “And we’re not going to roll over.”

Newsom also attacked Republican lawmakers in states with so called “trigger laws” that will go into effect and restrict abortion access once Roe is overturned.

“Those folks that can’t even afford a Greyhound bus ticket,” he said of those who would travel to states such as California for abortions. “How about all of those women and girls raped in states where they don’t even make an exception for rape? Talk about extremists. Rape and incest, that’s how extreme the Republican Party is in the United States of America.

Newsom arguably saved his most biting criticism for Democrats.

“Where the hell’s my party?” Newsom asked. “Where’s the Democratic Party? Why aren’t we standing up more firmly, more resolutely? Why aren’t we calling this out? This is a coordinated, concerted effort. And yes, they’re winning. They are. They have been. Let’s acknowledge that. We need to stand up, where’s the counteroffensive?”

At one point during a roughly half-hour appearance at the Planned Parenthood clinic, Newsom took a shot at Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).

“I can’t take any more Manchins,” he said.

The California Democrat also took a swipe at Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

“This is an economic issue across the spectrum, and at the end of the day, for women and girls, this is an economic issue, make no mistake,” he said. “That’s why this is about equality, this about women’s rights. It’s so foundational, sorry, Tucker Carlson, it is.”
