‘You’re Not Helping, Hunter!’ NRO’s Rothman Tells Fox Anchors Hunter Biden Will Be ‘Very Easy’ to Convict And Is Only Hurting the President
Hunter Biden is only making things harder for President Joe Biden with all the stunts he’s pulling in the investigations into and charges against him, National Review’s Noah Rothman said on Fox News Friday.
Rothman appeared on America’s Newsroom to speak with anchors Bill Hemmer and Shannon Bream about the investigation overall and specifically about former U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf being questioned by the House Oversight Committee about allegations of covering up for Hunter Biden and slow-walking the investigation into him.
Although Wolf refused to answer almost all questions, as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) told reporters after the closed-door session, it was not a waste of time to bring her in for a deposition, Rothman said.
He then pointed out that Hunter’s stunt in defying a subpoena with the press conference alongside Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was the opposite of helpful to the president.
“Hunter Biden is attempting to help his father, who’s facing a congressional investigation for obstructing Congress, by refusing to abide by a congressional subpoena,” said Rothman. “You’re not helping, Hunter! You’re making things a little bit worse!”
He added that the charges are “very easy to convict on” and pretty “open-and-shut.”
“There are no extenuating circumstances that say, well, you know, I should have paid back $1.4 million in taxes, instead, spent it on fast cars, fancy clothes, women, and illicit narcotics,” he said. “That’s the sort of thing that gets a conviction, which presents a profound political conundrum to his father.”
In an article for National Review this week, Rothman discussed the conundrum Biden will face.
“Soon enough, the president will be faced with a variety of horrible choices, the least agonizing of which only involve the life or death of his political career,” he wrote Wednesday. “Biden is the one person in America with the power to spare his only surviving son the consequences of his actions. If it isn’t already, the temptation to pull that trigger will be overwhelming. But the consequences of doing so would be disastrous.”
The whistleblowers who alleged that Hunter Biden had defrauded the government and that there was a certain amount of exposure that he should face, that he was not in a conspicuous fashion have proved to be true. We’ve seen now these charges that are coming out of in California against Hunter Biden probably wouldn’t have happened in the absence of that testimony. So there’s a certain amount of credibility that Mr. Shapely has, and I would defer to him.
Just — Hunter Biden is attempting to help his his father, who’s facing a congressional investigation for obstructing Congress, by refusing to abide by a congressional subpoena. You’re not helping, Hunter! You’re making things a little bit worse!
And he’s, Hunter Biden is facing charges now that are very easy to convict on. This is a pretty open-and-shut case. There are no extenuating circumstances that say, well, you know, I should have paid back $1.4 million in taxes, instead, spent it on fast cars, fancy clothes, women, and illicit narcotics. That’s the sort of thing that gets a conviction, which presents a profound political conundrum to his father.
