Reports Of Billy Bush Returning To TV hosting Gig Appear to be Premature

UPDATE 8:10 p.m. ET — We were duped! Gossip Cop has debunked the Daily Mail‘s report, with a source telling the website that the Mail report was “completely made up.”

We regret the error.

Former “Today” show host Billy Bush is reportedly making his television comeback this fall, according to the Daily Mail.

Bush is set to host Fox Television‘s news magazine’s “Top 30,” which is scheduled to begin airing in September and will tell ’30 stories in 30 minutes’ focusing on current events from a younger point of view, an unnamed industry insider told the Daily Mail.

Bush’s deal with Fox comes after he was fired from NBC following the release of the now infamous audio tapes where he can be heard yukking it up with Donald Trump as the celebrity businessman made offensive comments about women, even telling Bush how he would “grab them by the p****.”

At the time of the interview, Bush was a host on Access Hollywood and Trump was a reality TV star, not known to have political aspirations. The tape was leaked prior to the 2016 presidential election, but did not keep Trump from winning the White House.

Bush, the nephew of former President George H.W. Bush and cousin of former President George W. Bush, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in May about the incident and how it affected his family, particularly his 15-year-old daughter, Mary. He recounted a conversation he had with her after the tape became public.

“I said, ‘Everything is going to be fine, Mary. Everything’s going to be OK.’ It’s just instinctively what you say to your daughter,” Bush said. “And she said, ‘No, why were you laughing at the things that he was saying on that bus, Dad? They weren’t funny,’

“‘That was Dad in a bad moment a long time ago. You know me. I am really sorry that you had to hear and see that. I love you.’ She needed to hear that, and I certainly needed to tell her that.”

Bush said that he wanted to return to television immediately after the release of the tape, but said he thinks the time off was necessary.
