On last week’s Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher criticized the city of Boston for what he characterized as over-the-top wallowing after the tragic bombing attack at the Boston Marathon. Maher got perhaps a bit too biting in his criticism, saying “Your city was not leveled by Godzilla!”, which led to some tough words of condemnation from Boston Mayor Tom Menino.
Maher acknowledged it was a horrible tragedy, but at the same time, “unfortunately it happens every day in car accidents and everything else.” Maher also took a shot at the Red Sox parade honoring the victims of the bombing, and of all people, Anthony Weiner butted in to ask, “It was a nice moment, what’s wrong with you?!”
Menino was just as unamused by what Maher had to say about the city’s grief.
“It’s disrespectful of what happened to Boston that day… so he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, simple as that.”
Menino also said that Maher “should be taken to task for that.”
