Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in New York Apartment
The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday afternoon that actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in a West Village apartment.
According to Pervaiz Shallwani, WSJ‘s criminal justice reporter, he was found by a screenwriter at approximately 11:15 a.m. Hoffman was in the bathroom with a needle in his arm:

At about 3 p.m., Hoffman’s family released the following statement:
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”
Hoffman, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Truman Capote, was 46. He entered rehab last May after an addiction to prescription pills graduated into snorting heroin.
