Carly Fiorina Once Had ‘Great Admiration’ For ‘Intelligent, Focused, Tough, Determined’ Hillary

Freshly-minted hypothetical vice-presidential nominee Carly Fiorina seems to have made a second career out of cutting political ads, in advance, for her eventual opponents. As we reported earlier, Fiorina spent the early part of this year’s presidential campaign praising Donald Trump and lying about it later, but as it turns out, Fiorina has also been similarly generous to Hillary Clinton in the past. While campaigning for Senator John McCain in 2008, Fiorina released a video message to women voters that not only included copious praise for then-Senator Clinton, but even seemed to humbly suggest that Fiorina could only boast a “small measure” of Clinton’s accomplishments:

I have such great admiration and empathy for Hillary Clinton. I have great admiration for her because I know what it takes in some small measure to do what she has done. She is obviously incredibly intelligent, focused, tough, determined, empathetic of all the tens of millions of people that she was trying to represent in her quest to become the first woman president of the United States. And as a woman, I take great pride in the fact that Hillary Clinton ran for president. And I also watched with a lot of empathy as I saw how she was scrutinized, characterized, talked about as a woman. While I think woman have made great progress in so many ways I also known from personal experience that women in positions of power – particularly bold women – who are trying to drive change as Hillary Clinton must surely is…bold women, women in power are characterized, scrutinized differently than their male counterparts are.

What younger voters might not remember is that 2008 was a strange election in which Hillary Clinton actually wound up essentially campaigning for John McCain in her quest to take down Barack Obama. Conversely, Republicans like McCain and Fiorina were equally wont to embrace Hillary in an attempt to woo those of her supporters who may have been put off by the bitter primary fight.

If Carly Fiorina should eventually face off against Hillary and her eventual running mate, it will be fascinating to see how Fiorina responds to seeing these clips in the eventual SuperPAC ad.
