Devin Nunes Reportedly Went to London to Dig Up Dirt on Trump Dossier Author Christopher Steele
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, took a trip to London earlier this month. His reported aim? Digging up dirt on Christopher Steele, the former British intelligence author who wrote the dossier probing President Donald Trump‘s connection to Russia.
According to the Atlantic, Nunes flew to the U.K. in search of information of Steele’s service record, and to examine Steele’s ties to U.S. Justice Department official Bruce Ohr — who’s drawn Trump’s ire of late for his contact with Steele.
To that end, Nunes — per the Atlantic‘s report — sought meetings with the heads of MI5, MI6, and the Government Communications Headquarters. But he came up mostly empty. The Atlantic reports, through an unnamed source, that British officials were hesitant to meet with Nunes — believing that he was “trying to stir up a controversy.”
Ohr is set to testify before the House Judiciary and Oversight committees today. He is not, at the moment, slated to appear before Nunes’s Intelligence committee.
