The Washington State Department of Health has suspended the license of anesthesiologist Arthur Zilberstein for sending texts and nude selfies during surgery, alleging he “compromised patient safety due to his preoccupation with sexual matters while he was on hospital duty between at least April and August 2013.”
Zilberstein allegedly sent sexually explicit messages during numerous surgeries in which he was the presiding anesthesiologist, including forty-five in a single session; in at least one selfie he was exposing himself while dressed in hospital scrubs. He is also accused of using images of patients for sexual purposes, engaging in intercourse at the hospital, prescribing Oxycodone without evaluations, making racist remarks, and some other stuff.
The Swedish Medical Center suspended Zilberstein’s privileges and is conducting an internal investigation. It’s not clear how Zilberstein was caught, or what legal consequences he faces.
