The Alabama Senate special election is only a week away. With the GOP only holding a 52-48 majority in the chamber, Republicans in Washington have softened their stance when it comes to supporting embattled GOP nominee Roy Moore. President Donald Trump has now officially endorsed Moore in the race and will hold an event in Pensacola this week that will effectively serve as a campaign rally for the ex-judge. Meanwhile, the RNC has reinvested in the race.
As the race is essentially a dead heat at this point, Democrat Doug Jones isn’t holding back now when it comes to taking pointed shots at his opponent. During a campaign speech today, Jones let it loose regarding the allegations that Moore sexually abused teenage girls when he was in his 30s.
“I believe women are every bit as capable as men, that they deserve to be elected to public office,” he stated. “And I damn sure believe that I have done my part to ensure that men who hurt little girls should go to jail and not the United States Senate.”
Elsewhere in the speech, Jones mocked Moore for pulling out a tiny pistol while wearing a cowboy hat and best during a campaign event, stating that he uses his gun to hunting and not for “prancing around on stage in a cowboy suit.”
Jones has used the allegations against Moore in campaign ads, listing Moore’s accusers in one ad while asking if Alabama would “make their abuser a US Senator” and quoting Ivanka Trump’s condemnation of the GOP candidate in another.
