Elton John Calls for Dolce & Gabbana Boycott over ‘Synthetic Children’ Comments
Elton John called for a boycott of the fashion giant Dolce & Gabbana over comments they made about gay couples having children and “synthetic” babies. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana ––themselves openly gay –– don’t exactly have the highest opinion of gay marriage, and spoke out in a recent interview about “traditional” families.
Gabbana said, “The family is not a fad. In it there is a supernatural sense of belonging.” Dolce, meanwhile, said, “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteri [for] rent, semen chosen from a catalog.”
In response, John posted this on Instagram bashing their views on in vitro fertilization and calling for a Dolce & Gabbana boycott:
The boycott spread throughout the internet and even got support from other celebrities:
Because I choose to spend my money wisely & not support self-hating gays who view my son as "synthetic"! #BoycottDolceGabbana @dolcegabbana

In response, Dolce and Gabbana issued a statement claiming they weren’t judging others:
[Dolce] said: “I was talking about my personal view, without judging other people’s choices and decisions.”
Gabbana said: “We talked about our way of seeing reality, but it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”
