The Elton John boycott of Dolce & Gabbana — over the designers’ description of children of gay parents as “synthetic” — appears to have hit a snag. On Tuesday, the Daily Mail published photos that show the British singer carrying a shopping bag that just happens to have the Dolce & Gabbana logo emblazoned on the side:

“Yes he was carrying the bag but he hadn’t been shopping,” a spokesperson for John confirmed to the Daily Mail, indicating he was simply using it to carry other items. “And it should not detract from their original message or the boycott.”
Though, of course, when a celebrity wears or carries anything that has a company’s logo on it, they are effectively advertising for that company, something one would think John would be cognizant of less than 48 hours after calling for the boycott.
“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic.’ And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF — a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children,” John wrote on Instagram over the weekend. “Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again.”
He never said he wouldn’t carry their shopping bags.
According to TheWrap, a publicist for the singer originally suggested that the photo had been doctored, but then reversed that statement later in the day on Tuesday.
In an interview on Monday, Stefano Gabbana, one half of the designing duo, told an Italian newspaper that John was “ignorant” because he “denies ways of seeing things that may not be his but are just as deserving of respect.”
