Eric Garner Memorial Burns Down on MLK Day

The memorial for Eric Garner, the African-American man who died after he was put in a chokehold by an NYPD officer, was destroyed on MLK Day after it caught on fire.

Garner’s daughter, Erica, broke the news late last night on Twitter:

Despite her assertions of vandalism, though, police believe a candle accidentally fell and burned the memorial, according to the New York Post.

The memorial for Michael Brown also mysteriously caught on fire in September. One nearby resident suspected foul play, but others faulted the surrounding candles.
