GOP N.H. Sheriff Candidate Would Use Deadly Force To Prevent Abortions
Sheriff candidate Frank Szabo made the declaration in a press release. When asked to clarify, he doubled down and told a reporter that “Deadly force is the last thing law enforcement should be using, if a citizen’s life is in danger they should be protected. If there is no other choice, that’s what’s needed to protect the citizen.”
The comments were roundly condemned by both parties. Republicans called Szabo’s statement, “Irresponsible, outrageous, and inappropriate.”
Yet Szabo stands by them. He claims it’s the sheriff’s job to protect all citizens, unborn ones included. “Why is there a difference between someone who is 20 years old and their life is in danger and someone who is nine months in utero,” he said.
Szabo is set to face current sheriff James Hardy in a Republican primary next month.
Hillsborough County is the largest New Hampshire county by population with 380,841 residents. The county includes the cities of Nashua, Manchester, and borders Massachusetts.
