‘He Got Nuts’: Billy Crystal Dishes on Giuliani’s Bizarre Turn and That Infamous Golfing Photo
At various points throughout the 2016 presidential campaign, a photo would emerge on social media depicting a true heavy-hitters club of New York influencers on the golf course: former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, (then real estate titan) Donald Trump, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, President Bill Clinton, legendary Yankees skipper Joe Torre, and Billy Crystal. It makes for the perfect huh?! reaction, especially considering how visceral the language was from the Trump camp against President Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
And on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night, Crystal finally weighed in on the golf event in upstate New York behind the infamous photo. “It was a tournament, and we were a fivesome — which sounds terrible,” Crystal joked, invoking his best Trump impression in the process. He revealed that the former president was incessantly offering unprovoked advice to the others at every hole regarding club selection.
After a quip about unfriending people on Facebook, Crystal openly admitted, “…but if I could unfriend somebody: Rudy Giuliani.”
“I don’t know what happened to him,” Crystal continued. “I’ve know him, he’s a really good guy, but he got nuts… there might be some Rottweiler blood in his past,” he joked.
Giuliani, the Mayor of Gotham during the September 11th attacks, took a turn this past year in the opinions of many people while voicing his fervent support for Donald Trump, at times dabbling in the realm of the conspiratorial in his attacks of Hillary Clinton. Giuliani is on the short list for cabinet consideration.
