Houston News Show Accidentally Runs Tweet Calling Tony Romo Gay
The television machine practice of scrolling story-related tweets on news tickers has its inherent dangers, foremost among them the ever-present possibility that a tweet you don’t want up there might inadvertently get through.
Such was the case when Houston’s Fox 26 ran a delightful piece of local homophobia Wednesday night. The tweet read “Tony Romo, still the gayest player on the cowgirls,” most likely a reference to the Dallas Cowboy’s signing Michael Sam to its practice squad. (Or maybe some Houston Texans fan’s evergreen tweet.)
The worst part? The guy who got it through now has all the more incentive to keep tweeting like that.
UPDATE: 09/05/14 – Fox 26 Houston tweeted an apology:
In yesterday's 5&9pm news, we inadvertently aired a person's tweet re: Tony Romo w/offensive language. We sincerely apologize for the error
