Jeb Bush: ‘Taking Out Saddam Hussein Turned Out to Be a Pretty Good Deal’

During a national security forum hosted by Politico on Thursday, Jeb Bush reportedly had this to say about the Iraq War: “I’ll tell you, taking out Saddam Hussein turned out to be a pretty good deal.”

The comments were first recorded by Wall Street Journal reporter Reid J. Epstein:

According to The Daily Beast, Bush added that he did not want to engage in hypotheticals about his brother’s decision to invade that country in 2003. “Then that’s back to the future and you could make a movie,” he joked.

The GOP presidential candidate’s remarks come two days after he delivered a foreign policy speech that attempted to shift blame for the current crisis in Iraq away from his brother and onto President Barack Obama and Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Earlier this year, Bush ended up having to walk back his assertion that he would have invaded Iraq had he known then what we know now.

The war in Iraq is estimated to have cost the U.S. more than $2 trillion. As of last spring, the war caused the deaths of 4,488 U.S. troops, with another 32,223 left injured.
