Marco Rubio Admits He Thought RFK Jr Was ‘Crazy’ Before Meeting Him: ‘Now, I Believe Half Your Stuff’
Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed this week that before meeting Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., he thought Kennedy was “crazy,” quipping that “now, I believe half” of what he says.
Rubio offered the admission while appearing alongside his wife, Jeanette Dousdebes Rubio, on Katie Miller’s podcast Tuesday. Miller, who is married to top White House political adviser Stephen Miller, told the couple on Tuesday that each cabinet member she’s interviewed named the secretary of state as “the funniest person in [President Donald Trump’s] administration.”
Revealing that many of his laughs come from “inside jokes” that “wouldn’t make sense” to the public, Rubio continued:
I can say this to you — I’m a big Bobby Kennedy fan. I think he’s one of the best people I’ve ever met. Like, the guy truly is pure of heart. So I always — every now and then I’ll tell Bobby, “Bobby, before I met you, I thought you were crazy because that’s what people would say about you.” I said, “Now, I believe half your stuff!”
So he thinks that’s really funny. I don’t think that’s, like, a big joke or anything, but I tell him that, and I think Bobby is one of the most fantastic people I’ve ever met. Just such a good, good guy, who really is well-intentioned in everything he does, and really smart.
Later in the episode, the secretary of state poked fun at Kennedy’s famously strict diet, which Rubio described as consisting of “sauerkraut and meat.” Rubio joked that the regimen was not “sustainable” for him, marveling that Kennedy travels with coolers packed with sauerkraut.
“I’m not gonna travel the world with a cooler full of sauerkraut. It’s ridiculous!” Rubio said. When Miller asked whether Rubio considered himself part of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement, he replied that he was “in favor of MAHA” — only for his wife to immediately object and reveal that her husband instead has a penchant for Pop-Tarts and fast food.
