McCain: ‘I Don’t Know’ If Trump’s SCOTUS Pick Will Be Much Better than Hillary’s
During a Monday discussion on 1210 WPHT Philadelphia radio, the Arizona senator was asked if Trump was a “superior choice” to Hillary Clinton where nominating Antonin Scalia‘s replacement on the Supreme Court is concerned. For his response, the best that McCain could offer was “I don’t know, because I hear him saying a lot of different things.”
Trump supporters frequently argue that even if conservatives don’t like the mogul, they should vote for him anyway on the chance that he nominates a respectable choice to the vacant ninth seat on the court. On this subject, McCain also used his interview time to promise that “we will… be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton if she were president would put up.”
McCain and Trump have a rough relationship with one another, to say the least. McCain stood behind Trump through much of the election season despite Trump’s personal insult of his war hero status. After Trump’s troubling lewd comments re-emerged weeks ago, McCain was among several backers who withdrew their endorsement, which prompted Trump to blast GOP leaders for their disloyalty.
McCain went on to blast Trump further, not only for his comments about women, but also for several of his alarming ideas about foreign policy. Though he also raked Clinton across the coals, McCain said he was thinking about writing Lindsey Graham‘s name on November 8.

UPDATE – 3:20 p.m. ET: McCain’s spokesman said that the senator was walking on his comment about opposing any nominee put forward by Clinton.
McCain walks back comment he'd oppose any HRC Scotus nom. Per spox will "vote for or against that individual based on their qualifications"
