The New York Post generally goes for splashy tabloid covers, so it surprised people that their cover yesterday did not go all-out with a Joan Rivers tribute:
But according to Capital New York, the explanation for this restrained cover may be none other than Rupert Murdoch himself. Sources at the Post said that they were planning to go big with their Rivers’ tribute, but Murdoch happened to be in the newsroom and didn’t like the direction they were going in.
The tribute to Rivers involved the picture on the cover and two ages inside, but one Post source says their original plan was much bigger until Murdoch scrapped it.
It’s unclear why this would have happened, if it did, though it’s believed that Murdoch and Rivers didn’t have a good relationship, stemming from when Rivers hosted a late night show on Fox and fought with Murdoch on a lot.
It’s worth pointing out, though, that as of this posting, the lead story on the Post website is a feature about Melissa Rivers kissing her mom’s casket, accompanied by a video of the casket being carried.
