Priebus Denounces David Duke’s ‘Hateful Bigotry,’ Gets the Responses You Would Expect
David Duke is running for Senate, and lots of Republicans are denouncing him and his bigotry. RNC Chair Reince Priebus finally spoke out today to make it clear no one will be supporting his campaign or “hateful bigotry”:
David Duke & his hateful bigotry have no place in the Republican Party & the RNC will never support his candidacy under any circumstance
— Reince Priebus (@Reince) July 23, 2016
Now, the only problem with that is that his party nominated Donald Trump this week, who has engaged in what lots of people (Republicans included) have denounced as racist behavior.
Now, obviously, Trump is not on the same level of bigotry as the former grand wizard of the KKK, but Priebus still got the following responses for drawing the line:
This just used up all the irony in the Universe. https://t.co/cLAwQ8wHJD

.@Reince This is fine, though, right? https://t.co/3EVjH5GecI

And yet you’re just fine with a presidential candidate who frequently retweets white supremacists. https://t.co/FlcoLr6JGs @Reince

@Reince Huh? What about Donald Trump & his hateful bigotry? He's just as bad as David Duke, if not worse. smh
— Bonzo (@BonzoBeckett) July 23, 2016
@Reince Too little. Too late. Might have been nice to say that at the TOP of the ticket, too.

After nominating Trump @reince, this is rich. They are peas in a pod. Your party is dead. #RIPgop #NeverTrump

Your presidential nominee's only difference from David Duke is his lack of white sheets. Your actions betray your hollow words @Reince.
— Ashton E. Pittman (@ashtonpittman) July 23, 2016
@Reince David Duke & his hateful bigotry? Great. Now, how about your party's nominee? Integrity. Look it up.
— Jean-Paul Bevilacqua (@jpbevi) July 23, 2016
Priebus also said yesterday, “David Duke’s record as a career hate-monger in no way fits with our commitment to being the Party of the open door.”
