Reddit CEO Resigns After Internal Drama over Admin’s Firing

ellen paoEllen Pao, the interim CEO of Reddit, resigned today following user backlash over the firing of a popular site administrator.

If you’re out of the loop, last week Reddit fired Victoria Taylor, an admin responsible for coordinating site AMAs (“Ask Me Anything”) with celebrities and other high-profile individuals.

Users revolted, subreddits went dark in protest, and Pao apologized to users just a few days ago and promised a few fixes to site management.

Well, according to The New York Times, Pao herself resigned today. She explained, “It became clear that the board and I had a different view on the ability of Reddit to grow this year. Because of that, it made sense to bring someone in that shared the same view.”

Her exit’s being described as a mutual decision, and Pao will be replaced by Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman.
