Rep. John Conyers Stepping Aside as Ranking Member of House Judiciary Committee

With calls growing louder for him to step down as the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee while he is under an ethics investigation over numerous allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) announced today that he would indeed step aside during the investigation.

Below is his statement, via NBC News:

Following Conyers’ announcement, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi released a statement in which she said “zero tolerance means consequences” while highlighting that she’s asked for an ethics probe.

Earlier today during an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Pelosi cast doubt on some of the accusations against Conyers while calling the Michigan lawmaker an “icon in this country” who has done a lot to help women.
