Israel’s Labor Party has reportedly decided to postpone their upcoming primary election because Britney Spears is coming to town. According to Haaretz, she’ll be performing a concert in Tel Aviv on July 3rd, the same day the important vote was scheduled, so the party decided to postpone it by one day.
Apparently the concern isn’t that people will skip the polls in favor of the concert, but rather that it creates a logistics and security issue. Spears will be performing at Hayarkon Park, which is very close to the convention center, a likely polling place, and the spot where votes are counted. Because Spears’s concert is outside, it requires a lot of security, and of course the election does as well. There isn’t enough personnel for both.
There were also some traffic concerns, since roads near the convention center will be blocked to traffic that day.
