US Attorney Preet Bharara Will Not Submit Resignation, Will Force Trump to Fire Him

Yesterday, it was announced that Attorney General Jeff Sessions requested the immediate resignations of the 46 remaining US attorneys who were holdovers from the Obama Administration. One of the names listed was Preet Bharara, the United States attorney in Manhattan who was personally assured by then-President-Elect Donald Trump in late November that he would be retained.

Well, it now appears that Bharara is going to force Trump’s hand regarding this move by Sessions.

According to CNN, sources close to Bharara state that he feels “blindsided by the move” and that he was given “no notice whatsoever.” Therefore, he is going to make Trump fire him and won’t be handing in his letter of resignation.

Meanwhile, Trump personally let two US attorneys know that he won’t accept their resignations. One is Rod Rosenstein, who is currently going through a confirmation to become the new deputy attorney general. The other is Dana Boente, the acting deputy attorney general.
