The Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia starts today, and it will mark the beginning of Hillary Clinton‘s official nomination as a 2016 candidate for President of the United States.
The convention is off to a rough start due to a Wikileaks email scandal that has rocked the party’s national committee. As such, it is likely that today’s events will be devoted to healing fractures within the party, and encouraging unity in the face of the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
The day will begin at the Pennsylvania Convention Center with the theme of “United Together.” The goal is to show how the Democratic Party is the strongest political movement for unifying America’s social groups in the pursuit of economic prosperity. You can see an abbreviated list of the day’s keynote speakers below, with a complete list available here.
Pam Livengood – Clinton panelist on substance abuse
Francisca & Karla Ortiz – Undocumented immigrant mother and her daughter, an American citizen
Anastasia Somoza – Advocate for developmentally disabled Americans.
