Tucker Carlson Mocks Nicolle Wallace For Mistaking the Sound of a Bottle Opening For a Gunshot

Tucker Carlson, on Wednesday night, did what he does best -– made some extrapolations off of very little evidence and then laughed at someone who made an understandable error.

Carlson opened his show with a criticism of how other cable news channels have been covering the shooting at YouTube headquarters.

“Let’s pause for a moment and pretend this is not the 8 PM show on Fox News. Let’s pretend it’s somewhere else on the dial, CNN or MSNBC or actually any other cable channel or newspaper in America,” he said. “If that were true, by definition we would have to draw hard-and-fast conclusions from this tragedy using the limited facts that are available.”

“We focus relentlessly on the gun because nothing is more pivotal in a shooting than the weapon that was used. It’s always the gun’s fault. Always,” he snarked.

(Except it wasn’t really snarking because it wasn’t really that good of a point. It’s not the gun’s fault, per se, but it’s always a gun that’s used, not a knife or a flail or a particularly spiky hedgehog, so maybe that counts for something.)

“[The media is] also incredibly stupid, especially on the subject of firearms,” Carlson said, continuing. The people yelling at you about guns on television aren’t sure what end the bullet comes from. They’re kids, they’re children, with all the moral certainty of fifth graders,” he continued, pointing to MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace mistaking the opening of a soda can for gunfire as live footage of the scene in San Bruno, CA played out onscreen.

“No, Nicolle, not gunshots. Pretty funny. Be sure to listen very carefully as she lectures you about the Second Amendment. She knows a lot about it,” Carlson said with a laugh.
