Finally – somebody did it.
At an event in Austin, TX on Tuesday, a woman named Tammy Talpas (in a video flagged by Patrick Svitek of the Texas Tribune) asked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) if he’d submit to a DNA test to prove that he’s human because his health policies would put her in dire straits. (Although you really could’ve asked that question without context, Tammy.)
“I am a woman over 50 who, as of February 7, has seven pre-existing conditions — not including being a woman and a survivor of abuse,” Talpas said. “If you force me into a high-risk [insurance] pool you will either bankrupt me or kill me. I take these threats of medical aggression personally and seriously.”
And then she dropped the bomb. “Will you pledge to submit to a DNA test to prove that you’re a human?” (Shame that she didn’t ask him how his thousands of glistening eggs are doing. Inquiring minds want to know.)
To his credit, Cruz was pretty gentlemanly about the whole thing.
“Well, ma’am, thank you for that,” Cruz said. “And one of the great things about our democratic system is we can treat each other with respect and civility.”
“Is that a yes or a no?” the woman said, pressing.
“Ma’am, if you want to engage me with insults, that’s your prerogative, but I’m not going to reciprocate,” he replied. The senator thanked Talpas for her attendance, and walked away — possibly so as not to dignify an impertinent question with an answer, possibly because he’s secretly Swamp Thing in an ill-fitting man suit.
Money’s on the latter, don’t @ me.
