Whoopi on Women in Combat: If You Want to Kick Ass, ‘You Want a Woman with PMS’
The U.S. Military’s decision to open all combat roles to women split the hosts of The View Tuesday, with Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Raven-Symoné supporting the announcement, while Candace Cameron-Bure and Paula Faris suggested the move may hurt the military.
During an impassioned debate, Faris said some of the arguments against women in combat roles are “perfectly logical,” including the potential for mixed-gender combat troops to be sexually attracted to one another.
Goldberg countered Faris’ assertion, noting that the Israeli ARMY allows women in combat. “If you’re a soldier and you believe that you can go do that job, like everybody else you should have the opportunity to go,” Goldberg said.
“The fact that you think you’re going to be sexually attracted to somebody is not our problem,” Goldberg continued. “That’s your problem, that means that you need get yourself re-done. If I’m so alluring you can’t concentrate on your Special Ops job, there’s a problem.”
“If a woman can do their job, it’s not up to anybody to say ‘she can’t come in because I might be attracted to her,'” Goldberg said. “That’s not a reasonable reason to keep somebody out.”
“And quite honestly if you want to kick some bad guy’s ass, you want a woman with PMS,” she added.
