MSNBC Host Trashes Nancy Pelosi for Turning On Biden: ‘She Helped Orchestrate’ His ‘Very Public Demise’

MSNBC’s Symone Sanders-Townsend absolutely eviscerated Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for betraying President Joe Biden and fomenting his “very public demise.”

On MSNBC’s The Weekend, Sanders-Townsend denounced Pelosi for publicly signaling that Biden needed to make a decision on leaving the race following his “disastrous” debate performance.

In a moment that turned the heat up on Biden dramatically ahead of his eventual withdrawal from the race, Pelosi told Morning Joe on July 10:

It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short. I think overwhelming support of the caucus — it’s not for me to say, I’m not the head of the caucus anymore — but, he’s beloved, he is respected, and people want him to make that decision.

All the while, Biden insisted he was still running.

Then, last week, Pelosi told The New York Times that Biden should have dropped out of the presidential race sooner to make way for an “open primary,” instead of allowing Kamala Harris to be anointed as the Democratic heir apparent.

Pelosi told The Times’ Lulu Garcia-Navarro, “Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race. The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.”

During a panel discussion this weekend, Leah Daughtry, co-chair of the DNC Rules Committee, had just commented, “With all due respect, a lot of people on Capitol Hill, they don’t have the answers.”

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: Well, let me just be clear, I’m gonna say it if she ain’t gonna say it — Nancy Pelosi, everybody talks about how the Speaker Emerita, you know, she’s so strategic, she can count, she did all of that when she was the Speaker in Congress, but my question is: where is your calculator now? Cause Democrats about to lose the daggone House. And for her to sit on this podcast, and we played the sound of my podcast about, “Oh, I don’t deal with presidential politics — ”

DAUGHTRY: She did this cycle!

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: She played in presidential politics this cycle, and she helped orchestrate the very public demise of the president. And thank God for Joe Biden, that he came out and, yes, endorsed his VP. ‘Cause these people wanted an open primary! For what?

DAUGHTRY: And when were we going to have an open primary between July 21 when he stepped down and August 20th when the convention was going to happen? When was going to happen? And, anybody who suggested that, clearly wasn’t looking at a calendar.

SANDERS-TOWNSEND: I’m looking for the magic wand that apparently the Democrats on Capitol Hill think that we have. I hope, I surely hope, that Democrats eke out the majority in the House. But if they don’t, I think the people that had so much to say about the president and the vice president earlier this summer, I think those people need to take a back seat. They obviously fleeced the vice president’s campaign and made a whole bunch of money!
