House Dem Warns ‘MAGA Friends’ to Rethink Trump Drug Boat Strikes: They ‘Need to Imagine Who Gets Killed’ When AOC is President

Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), while skewering President Donald Trump for “illegally” striking suspected Latin American drug traffickers, semi-ominously warned Republicans to “imagine who gets killed” if Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) were to become president.

Himes offered the hypothetical during an appearance on MSNBC’s Chris Jansing Reports on Wednesday. Chris Jansing played Himes a clip of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), earlier in the day, saying the majority of Americans support Trump killing suspected drug traffickers.

“I love this debate,” Graham said. “The president has all the authority in the world and if you want to fight over this, let’s fight over this. I think most Americans are going to be with Trump.”

That remark set Himes off.

“It’s beneath [Graham] to say what he just said. He knows, as well as I do, there is no legal authorization for these strikes. There isn’t,” Himes started off by saying.

He continued:

“If Lindsey Graham and other Republicans want to go the route of saying ‘it’s okay to kill people illegally, just so long as the American public supports it,’ the American public needs to really think that through, you know?

“There will be a Democratic president someday. And all my MAGA friends who are cheering on these illegal killings need to imagine who gets killed when President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that it doesn’t matter what the law is, she’s going to do what she’s going to do.”

The congressman added that, because he works in Washington, D.C., he understands the “complete abnegation of principle” and “thumbing of the nose at the rule of law.” But even considering the sordid nature of Congress, Himes said Graham’s comments went too far.

Trump’s killing of suspected drug traffickers has not only been criticized by Democrats, but also some Latin American leaders. Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ripped Trump for the strikes and questioned whether  “humanity” should “get rid” of Trump during a recent Univision interview.

The president responded to Petro by calling him a “thug” and warning him to watch his mouth, or else the USA would take “very serious action” against him.
