James Carville confidently predicted an electoral win by Vice President Kamala Harris in an op-ed this week, but he also later admitted Democrats have a problem with their “jackass language” alienating voters.

On the Politics War Room podcast on Thursday, Carville answered a fan email asking him to “teach” Democrats to communicate better with voters, including Harris. The listener said Democrats use language that is too “complicated” and “overly sophisticated.”

“It’s been a problem. I couldn’t agree with you more. I think we are trying to extricate ourselves from it a little bit. I think people are trying to speak a little cleaner or crisper. The problem is there’s a lot of part of liberal culture that still insists on using this jackass language,” Carville said.

He then took a shot at NPR, identifying them as one culprits he was referring to.

“This morning, I was listening to NPR — which, again, I find on one hand quite informative and on the other hand maddeningly frustrating — talking about this ‘vegan community.’ Does any normal person use the term ‘vegan community?'” the Democratic strategist said.

Words like “community” being overused, Carville argued, “sends so many coded signals” to certain voters.

He also dismissed “identity politics nonsense,” arguing that serious Democrats don’t use the same language as some of the far left.

“By the way, no Democrat, anywhere, is uttering any of this identity politics nonsense. No one. You don’t hear anyone using terms like Latinx… the word is so stupid I don’t even want to pronounce it right,” Carville said.

In an op-ed for The New York Times this week, Carville gave three reasons why he believes Harris will win, which included Republicans’ history of losing elections under former President Donald Trump and Harris beating him in fundraising.

Carville explained he wrote the piece to fight against Democrats becoming a “depressed party” over the election. The strategist has warned before that a second Trump term would include the arrest of political opponents.

“A depressed party is not a winning party. And so anything that I can do to address that kind of depression, I’m glad to do it,” he said. “And I’m glad The Times gave me the platform. And I was happy to write it and I think all the things I said are valid and true and, you know, hopefully they’ll all come to fruition.
