Mike Johnson Blasts Biden’s ‘Political Decision’ on Israel Aid: ‘Terrified of the Pro-Hamas Wing of the Democratic Party’
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) accused President Joe Biden of being “terrified of the pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic Party” on Thursday.
Johnson joined Fox & Friends and accused Biden of defying the “will” of Congress by threatening to withhold a munitions shipment to Israel if the country engages in an all-out ground assault on Rafah. The country’s strikes on Gaza, in an effort to eliminate the terror group Hamas, have led to thousands of civilian casualties and major protests in the United States against the president’s support of Israel.
Johnson called Biden’s recent threat “catastrophic policy” and said he’d spoken to Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu directly about the already-planned munitions shipment, saying some of the shipment is “precision weapons,” which would help reduce civilian deaths.
Ainsley Earhardt asked if the president is “selling out,” citing criticism of Israel within his own party, college campus protests, and Democratic primary vote protests in states like Michigan and Wisconsin where thousands have chosen to vote uncommitted in their primaries to protest the war.
Johnson said Biden is “terrified” of the “pro-Hamas wing” of his own party.
“He’s terrified of the pro-Hamas wing of the Democratic Party, but let me tell you something, this is a time when the commander in chief, the president of the United States who has the largest bully pulpit in America, this is a time when we desperately need the president to speak clearly with clarity and conviction and consistency about right versus wrong,” he said.
In a CNN interview on Tuesday, Biden raised alarm about civilian deaths and stated clearly that he will not support a ground invasion of Rafah.
“I made it clear that if they go into Rafah — they haven’t gone in Rafah yet — if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities, that deal with that problem,” he said.
