Stephen Colbert Mocks Fox & Friends for Calling Trump’s Huge Losses ‘Impressive’: Serving Up ‘Breakfast Propaganda’

Stephen Colbert mocked Fox & Friends Wednesday night for dishing out a bit of “breakfast propaganda” in wake of the New York Times bombshell regarding President Donald Trump‘s taxes.

The Times recently reported that Trump reported $1 billion in losses and paid little in taxes over a ten-year period from 1985 through 1994.

“Trump’s tax documents, they paint a picture of a man always living above his means,” Colbert said. “For instance, in 1987, he spent $29 million on a 282-foot yacht. Which he ultimately agreed to turn over to his lenders.”

He then quipped it was hard to put a positive spin on something like that unless you were a “Fox & Friend.”

The Late Show host next played a clip of  Fox News’ Steve Doocy declaring the boat that Trump turned over to lenders “a big boat.”

Colbert then introduced a second clip, noting: “Then they served the next course of the breakfast propaganda.”

“If anything, you read this and you’re like: ‘Wow, it’s pretty impressive all the things that he’s done in his life,’” Fox & Friends Ainsley Earhardt spins in the second clip.

“That’s the way he lived,” Brian Kilmeade then chimes in with his defense of Trump and his lifestyle that included the big boat. “The reason why we all knew Donald Trump’s name is for 30 years, that’s what he did. He bought towers, hotels, golf courses. He did it in other countries. What do people not understand about he’s a little bit different than most people?”

“Yes, we’ve noticed he’s a little different,” Colbert said after the Fox clip ended. “If he were most people, he’d either be in jail right now or napping on the couch while his children quietly discuss the next steps.”
