New England Patriots Documentary Edited Al Michaels’ Call from Super Bowl Loss to Eagles — Removed Name of QB Nick Foles

Apple TV’s documentary on the New England Patriots apparently edited out the name of Eagles quarterback Nick Foles during Al Michaels’ call of Super Bowl LII.

The documentary series The Dynasty, which premiered Feb. 16, gives viewers a look behind the curtain of the one of the most dominant eras in the history of professional sports. With quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick, the team won six Super Bowls in 19 years — including three in Brady’s first four seasons as a starter.

In 2018, the Eagles beat the Patriots 41-33 to win their first Super Bowl in team history. Arguably the most iconic play from that game was the “Philly Special,” a trick play the Eagles ran that saw Foles catching a touchdown pass from tight end Trey Burton.

When The Dynasty got to that game, one viewer noticed something was up with Michaels’ call.

As user Todd Orodenker pointed out, when the Eagles ran the play, Michaels said, “Caught, Foles, touchdown.” In The Dynasty, however, Michaels is heard saying, “Caught, touchdown.” Foles’ name was clearly removed.

At the end of Super Bowl LII, Brady was called out for not shaking Foles’ hand. As a result, some corners of the internet have come to the conclusion that Brady harbors some kind of animosity toward him. Though he’s since denied that theory, it hasn’t stopped people from assuming the edited commentary was done out of spite.
