Trump Opens Fire on Cohen: ‘What Kind of a Lawyer Would Tape a Client?’

President Donald Trump opened fire on Michael Cohen Wednesday, the morning after tapes of the pair discussing the paying off of a Playboy model alleging an affair was released by Cohen’s lawyer on CNN.

Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis appeared on CNN Tuesday night to discuss the tape, which was surreptitiously recorded by Cohen while he spoke on the phone with Trump in September 2016 about buying the story of Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model alleging an affair.

Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has been running defense after Davis appeared on CNN, calling into Laura Ingraham‘s show to dispute some of the claims made by Cohen’s lawyer.

On Wednesday morning, Trump broke his silence in a tweet.

“What kind of a lawyer would tape a client?” he wrote. “So sad! Is this a first, never heard of it before?”

He also took notice that the tape seemed to have been prematurely ended: “Why was the tape so abruptly terminated (cut) while I was presumably saying positive things? I hear there are other clients and many reporters that are taped – can this be so? Too bad!”
