Chris Cuomo Tears Down Matt Schlapp’s Trump Defense: ‘He Lies All the Time!’
Things got heated Friday night during CNN Chris Cuomo‘s one-on-one with CPAC chair Matt Schlapp.
Cuomo got the ball rolling when he said this to the pro-Trump conservative: “This president made a mockery of political discourse, decency and truth-telling and you know it, but you guys don’t jump up and down.”
Schlapp responded by saying that, in fact, he didn’t know that.
“You do know,” Cuomo insisted. “He just said Kim Jong Un was not responsible for Otto Warmbier.”
“I think it’s a big mistake to say that Donald Trump is somehow a dishonest political leader,” Schlapp pressed.
“He lies all the time!” Cuomo pushed back, unwilling to cede to Schlapp’s claims.
Schlapp said that was “not true.”
“He lies!” Cuomo insisted once again. “He said he didn’t have anything to do with Jared’s clearance and he did. He said he had nothing to do with the hush money payments and he did. He said 2 million people voted illegally and they didn’t. He lies all the time.”
Schlapp then tried to start talking about illegal voting but Cuomo pressed on, listing more Trump lies.
“You’re not going to let me talk!” Schlapp said, trying to get a word in edgewise.
“He said he believes Putin about not being involved with interference, he believes MBS in Saudi Arabia about not having anything to do with Khashoggi,” Cuomo continued on. “If President Obama said that, Matt, your head would pop off your shoulders, now, silence.”
Schlapp then offered this defense of Trump: “Here’s what I know, okay? I know that there are certain outlets that want to focus on things that they say come truth teller says is incorrect. The fact is is this, the president was very clear with the American voter about what he intended to do. He wasn’t lying about what he intended to do, Chris.”
The CPAC chair then said Trump simply did what he said he was going to do, from engaging with Kim Jong Un to building a wall.
Shortly after that Cuomo ended the interview telling Schlapp, “I get a little touchy when we ignore the obvious but you’re always welcome on here.”
