It was reported this week that the Trump administration decided to remove restrictions placed by the previous White House on the importing of elephant hunting trophies from the African counties of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Immediately, folks made the connection that this was related to the president’s sons, who have made African hunting trips in the past and have been pictured with big game carcasses.
During the ‘Trump Watch’ segment at the end of tonight’s program, Hardball’s Chris Matthews took aim at Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump for killing elephants and other animals in Africa and posing in pictures with their trophies.
“You’ll see here in these pictures the allure such bloody stuff holds for the Trumps,” Matthews exclaimed while showing images of the Trump sons in Africa. “They kill for the photo-op. Kill large, African animals for the bragging rights. For the pictures of themselves.”
He added, “As 21st-century Tarzans of the jungle. ‘Look what I just killed. Me Tarzan, you Jane.'”
The MSNBC host went on to tear into the easing of the restrictions on African hunting trophies and the notion of hunters from America going there just to kill big game.
“I spent a couple years in Africa,” Matthews concluded. “I don’t want to see its great natural wonders — much like our Grand Tetons, our Grand Canyon and, yes, Niagara Falls — falling to the rifle shots of rich kids from America whose father cares so little about Africa’s future and mankind’s love of this planet.
