Chuck Todd Presses Lanny Davis on BuzzFeed Report: If It’s Untrue, Don’t You Have Obligation to Say So?

Michael Cohen legal advisor Lanny Davis spoke with NBC News’ Chuck Todd this afternoon and repeatedly emphasized they have no comment on the bombshell BuzzFeed News report.

Davis would not confirm or deny that President Donald Trump directed Cohen to lie to Congress about the Trump Tower Moscow project, despite Todd repeatedly trying to get an answer.

“If this story is true, it’s going to lead to the impeachment of a sitting President of the United States,” he said. “If this story is not true, don’t you think you have an obligation to tell us it’s not true?”

Davis said he not only wants to follow hie client’s instructions, but to “honor and respect Bob Mueller.”

“As much as the media would like Michael to say ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ ‘maybe’ about a story, anything to do with the Mr. Mueller investigation he does not want to comment on, nor will he during the February 7 hearing,” he added, before reiterating Cohen’s concerns for his and his family’s safety.

Todd again tried to get some comment on the BuzzFeed report, but Davis did not comment.

Instead, he said, “I actually wanted to come on to talk about the President of the United States threatening a family… Every Trump supporter watching this show––and I’m sure there are many––every Republican and Democratic member of Congress knows we all agree at a time of fantastically bad division in this country, there’s one thing we all agree on. It’s the purple issue. Family is out of bounds. There is only one person in the country, one president in our history, that would threaten family as a tactic to make fear of somebody he calls a rat for telling the truth, and that’s President Trump. And the Republicans should be holding him accountable. That’s why I wanted to come on.”
