Colbert Mocks Trump For Reported Nikki Haley Tensions: He ‘Accidentally Appointed Someone Competent’
Stephen Colbert had some fun at the expense of President Trump over a report that suggests that there are heightened tensions between him and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that Trump was angered by Haley’s recent appearance on the Sunday morning talk shows when she claimed that there would be more sanctions placed on Russia, something that was immediately walked back by the White House.
“We tried to get a followup from Nikki Haley, but it’s so hard to reach her under that bus,” Colbert quipped.
He then blasted the president for reportedly shouting “Who wrote that for her?” at his television screen while watching the UN Ambassador.
“Fun fact Mr. President, not all women are under legally-binding agreements about what they can say,” Colbert reacted. “Some of them just get to talk!”
The Late Show host then mocked the spat between Haley and WH economic advisor Larry Kudlow when he accused her of being “momentarily” confused, which she reacted by saying she doesn’t get confused.
“Good for you, Nikki!” Colbert exclaimed. “Nikki Haley does not get confused… except for that one time she joined the Trump administration. Not sure what she was thinking then.”
Colbert hypothesized that Trump’s angry because he “accidentally appointed someone competent.” He then called the rumors that Haley and Vice President Mike Pence would unify as a 2020 ticket “absurd.”
“Mike Pence can’t be on a ticket with a woman who’s not his wife!” Colbert exclaimed.
