Don Lemon Calls Trump ‘Hypocrite-in-Chief’ for Employing Undocumented Immigrants

CNN’s Don Lemon said the thing that many Americans were feeling Thursday night regarding a recent report of undocumented workers employed by the Trump Organization. Lemon called President Donald Trump ‘”Hypocrite-in-Chief” for ostensibly not practicing what he has preached regarding immigration reform.

The NY Times published an in-depth profile on Victorina Morales Thursday morning. Morales is an undocumented immigrant who works as a housekeeper at Trump’s golf course in Bedminster, NJ, is taking a stand against his rhetoric against people like her.

Trump has consistently railed against the threat that “illegals” pose to the country he leads and has suggested extreme measures to secure the southern border in an effort to keep undocumented migrant workers like Morales out of the United States. So, how is the Trump Organization employing someone like Morales, and probably countless others like her?

The Guatemala native spoke to The New York Times about how she travelled to New Jersey after illegally crossing the border almost 20 years ago. Morales says she’s aware the she could be fired or deported by coming forward, but she is working with a lawyer on an application for protection under asylum laws, and she’s also considering workplace abuse and discrimination lawsuit.

Of course, President Trump cannot realistically be expected to micro-manage the legality of every single employee in his multi-billion dollar corporation. Given Trump’s extreme rhetoric, however, it is a reasonable expectation that the Trump Org should be far more buttoned up on his issue if only to avoid this rather embarrassing public relations gaffe.

We live in a strange time where even the most obvious observations still deserve promotion and amplification. This is one such example.
