Last week on Tucker Carlson Tonight, guest host Bill Hemmer and Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce discussed how a 10-year-old boy asked Vice President Mike Pence for an apology after the VP accidentally brushed him in the face with his arm.
Hemmer asked at the top of the segment, “Is our youth fragile?” Bruce said at one point, “I guess we’re giving birth to snowflakes now, because that looked like that kid needed a safe space in that room.”
The young boy’s mother, Dr. Ingrid Herrera-Yee appeared on CNN yesterday to tell Jake Tapper she was appalled by that segment and would like an apology.
She said her son is on the autism spectrum and concluded, “Please don’t use kids. Whether they’re typically developing kids — it doesn’t matter that he’s autistic or he’s a military kid. Forget all that. He’s a kid. And you don’t use children as examples on national television like that.”
Tapper himself tweeted out the following earlier today:
Military mom whose 10 year old autistic son was attacked on cable news still waiting for apology. I will tweet this every day until it comes https://t.co/9FtFY4VpJO

This morning on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Hemmer brought on Bruce, who issued an apology:
“I am so sorry to the family. My intention was never to hurt a kid and his mom. We had absolutely no idea that Michael was on the autism spectrum. And as a gay woman and feminist, I have spent most of my adult life working to improve the lives of women and children and those who are disenfranchised. I get it and I apologize… A main lesson here, no matter intent, is to leave kids out of our political discussions. We certainly agree on this.”
