Giuliani Fires Back at ‘Bitter’ Michael Cohen Over Trump Tower Bombshell: ‘He’s Lied All His Life’
Following Michael Cohen‘s allegation that President Donald Trump knew of a Trump Tower meeting during which Russians planned to offer dirt on Hillary Clinton just months before the 2016 election, Rudy Giuliani slammed the former fixer as nothing but a jealous liar, spiteful over being excluded from the White House.
“He didn’t select Michael for government. You know Michael was bitter about that,” Giuliani told CNN’s Chris Cuomo Thursday evening after the network broke the latest on the Cohen scandal. “That’s going to be on tapes, without getting into the detail of that. And he’s very, very jealous and bitter about the kids, which also comes across on the tapes. So you got a whole scenario here that’s really, really sick.”
Giuliani, who serves as Trump’s personal attorney, has been a staunch defender of the president, attempting to paint Cohen as a deceptive character thirsty for revenge as developments continue to emerge in the ongoing saga over Trump’s payments to his alleged ex-lovers and interactions between his associates and shady Russian characters.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s just not credible,” Giuliani said of Cohen. “I would not accept him as a witness as a prosecutor. If Mueller has any other kind of case, this is the kind of witness that can really destroy your whole case because any finder of fact loses confidence in the case when you rely on a guy like this, when you rely on a guy where before you’re finished with him, you’re going to have such a string of lies, you just can’t trust him. You put him in this kind of pressure, and what’s his history been? His history has been lying under pressure.”
“He’s lied all his life,” Giuliani said of Trump’s longtime lawyer.
Despite Giuliani’s disdain for Cohen, he admitted that Trump had been fooled, not questioning Cohen’s reliability until only recently, as suspicion grows that he’ll turn on his former boss to save himself.
“I saw the president when he first found out that he had been taped, and the president was completely shocked,” Giuliani said, referring to revelations that Cohen had recorded conversations between him and Trump. “And he wasn’t angry. President Trump can get angry sometimes. He was disappointed, almost like a father who has been betrayed by his son.”
However, on the matter of the Trump Tower meeting, Giuliani said he’s not ready to accept Cohen’s claims as fact.
“I haven’t had a chance to analyze it, and I don’t want to assume that hypothetical because it’s so contrary to all the facts that I know up until now,” he said.
