GOP Rep. Kinzinger: Let’s Make a Deal and Stop the ‘Stupid Shutdown Idiocy Cycle’
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) told CNN this afternoon that he hopes Republicans and Democrats can come together and make a deal to “get past… the stupid shutdown idiocy cycle.”
“If it’s an agreeable bill, agreeable appropriations, I’ll reopen as much government as we can, but Democrats are going to have to come to the table and compromise,” Kinzinger said to after CNN’s Manu Raju asked him about ways to partially open the government amid the shutdown.
“We are too — it’s not going to be just our way or the highway. I think there’s people that probably don’t want to go attach DACA to something like this,” he added. “But this is like a super easy issue to solve, and this is what just frustrates me out here, is we can all solve this. It’s like an 80% agreement when we’re done.”
The lawmaker concluded by saying the stalemate is caused because “nobody wants to give anybody a win or anything else.”
“We’ve got to get past this or we’re going to continue in this stupid shutdown idiocy cycle for the rest of our time out here and that’s got to stop.”
Washington, D.C. is now on its third week of the government shutdown, which President Donald Trump triggered after refusing to sign a funding bill because it did not provide enough money for border security.
