Joe Scarborough Praises Elon Musk ‘Getting Before Reporters’ To Discuss Federal Cuts: ‘Extraordinarily Important!’

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough praised Elon Musk for “getting before reporters” in an Oval Office press conference to discuss the recent actions of his cost-cutting efforts at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which the host argued “many Americans would support.”

Musk took center stage at the presser on Tuesday, standing alongside President Donald Trump to defend DOGE amid growing fears that he and his team are on a rogue mission to dismantle key parts of the federal government.

The billionaire railed against what he termed “the bureaucracy,” which he claimed poses a direct threat to democratic governance and framed DOGE’s aggressive actions as necessary to curb government inefficiency, despite mounting questions about the legality and transparency of their methods.

During Wednesday’s Morning Joe commentary, Scarborough argued that “in theory,” Musk’s drive for federal bureaucratic efficiency was “wonderful.”

In theory, this would be wonderful. In theory, this is wonderful. Whether you’re talking about the Pentagon, whether you’re talking about the VA, whether you’re talking about social security, anybody that has tried to deal with the IRS and how antiquated, and I may say for Republicans, understaffed! All these agencies are, they’re not going to tackle the $36 trillion debt by doing all the things they want to do and cutting some employees here and there. So, yeah, this is, I think, a concept that many Americans would support. A lot of independents would support that.

That said, he repeated broader concerns that Musk accounted for DOGE’s actions, urging him to take more press briefings.

The question, though, is: is it being done legally? Is it being done constitutionally? And is it being done transparently? I think Elon Musk getting before reporters, I actually think as much as possible, since his people are running through these government agencies, I think that is extraordinarily important. And it’s also, of course, most important that the letter of the law is followed, that the constitution is followed, that actually Congress cares about its article one powers.
