Melania Tours Border Detention Center: ‘How Can I Help These Children to Reunite With Their Families?’
First Lady Melania Trump visited a child detention center in McAllen, TX on Thursday to thank its workers for taking care of illegal migrant children – and also to ask how she can get them back to their loved ones.
“Let me begin to recognize each of you and thanking you for all that you do, for your heroic work that you do every day and what you do for those children,” Trump began. “We all know that they’re here without their families, and I want to thank you for your hard work, your compassion and your kindness you’re giving them in these difficult times.”
“I’m here to learn about your facility and which I know you house children on a long-term basis,” she continued. “And I would also like to ask you how I can help to these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible.”
She then thanked everyone around her again with a smile.
The First Lady was reportedly very concerned about children being separated from their families and had been urging President Donald Trump “for some time now” to keep families and children together at the border. Only yesterday did the president sign an executive order stopping his administration’s policy of separating families – only then detaining them together rather than apart.
