Former Republican Speaker of the House and Donald Trump supporter Newt Gingrich ripped the Bush family on Good Morning America Monday for skipping the Republican National Convention, calling them sore losers who were still upset Jeb Bush didn’t win.
“You’re a former Speaker, you’re here,” ABC’s George Stephanopoulos said. “But you’re not seeing either of the former presidents, you’re not seeing Mitt Romney, you’re not seeing John McCain, you’re not seeing most of the senate candidates in tight races.”
But Gingrich said he wasn’t concerned by their absences. “The reason people nominated Donald Trump is they weren’t happy, and frankly the Bushes are behaving I think childishly.”
“Childishly?” asked Stephanopoulos.
“Childishly,” Gingrich repeated. “I mean, Jeb lost. Get over it. The fact is this Republican Party has been awfully good to the Bushes.”
Gingrich also singled out Romney (who defeated him in the 2012 Republican nomination race) for special criticism, noting that he also didn’t endorse Ronald Reagan. “As long as we were supporting him, Mitt Romney was really happy,” he argued.
