Nicolle Wallace and Chris Christie Tussle Over Beach Photos: ‘Should You Have Stayed Inside?’

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace took a moment during her interview with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to press him on that now-infamous beach photo and his waning public image in the state.

After talking with him at some length about Russia and that Donald Trump Jr. meeting, Wallace told him that she was thrown by his “indifference” to his image after that photo came out when she knows that’s not the kind of person he is.

She asked, “Why don’t you care how you’re perceived?”

Christie said he does care, but once again insisted, “I’m not gonna sacrifice my family for public perception… I had to make a choice between political optics and my family.”

Wallace repeatedly asked him if maybe there was a way to avoid this PR disaster, asking at one point, “Should you have stayed inside?”

Christie continued to say that it was the media, not him, that was being “sneaky,” and told Wallace this whole thing is ridiculous because he didn’t lie about where he was.

Wallace continued to ask him about his public image and whether it bothers him that it’s so low. Christie insisted that he doesn’t care because “if you judge yourself by that, then you never belonged in the job in the first place.”
