Sarah Sanders: Gen. John Kelly ‘Disgusted’ by Politicalization of Son’s Death
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders basically criticized her own boss today when she said John Kelly is “disgusted” with those who have used the retired general’s dead son as a political talking point
Sanders spoke a lot today about how it is the “disgrace of the media” to scrutinize President Trump for reaching out to La David Johnson‘s family after the sergeant’s death in Niger. NBC’s Peter Alexander eventually got a chance to ask Sanders if Trump cleared things with Kelly before he invoked the chief of staff’s son as part of his recent “political argument” about how to offer proper condolence to gold star families.
Alexander pressed Sanders to describe how Kelly felt about all of this, and without a scrap of self-awareness, she responded with “I think that General Kelly is disgusted by the way that this has been politicized and that the focus has become on the process and not the fact that American lives were lost.”
Trump invoked the death of Robert Kelly earlier this week while he was defending his false claim that Barack Obama never called families who lost loved ones serving in the U.S. Military. The White House defended Trump’s remarks on Tuesday when an administrative official released a media statement which re-affirmed that the president’s predecessor did not call Kelly.
